New Safety Brakes on Trolleys
This photograph was probably produced as part of an advertising campaign to trumpet newly introduced streetcars with a new braking system that was much more effective than the systems previously in use. In this posed photograph, a boy runs out in front of the street car and the conductor is shown swinging around the handle of the "safety brake" to bring the car to a rapid stop. The photograph was taken on South St. in Jamaica Plain. The placard on the street card indicates its terminus at Forest Hills Station.
